Your best bet for break in is the first oil change. The book reommends 500 miles. You must take into consideration the temperature,how the bike is loaded and how hard you ride. I changed mine at 400 miles and ran 20/50 full synthetic.
After a few miles you might notice some oil on the front of the battery case,this is common on this bike. Let the engine warm up, and don't load the motor right away. The oil has a long way to travel so take it easy. The drive belt will have to stretch out a bit before you adjust it.
